The theme of tulips is woven subtly throughout the hotel and can be found in the names of the meeting rooms, items in The Shop and occasionally as bouquets throughout the hotel, the restaurant and the bar. In Canada, these flowers are an iconic symbol of friendship, dating back to the Second World War, when Canada provided safe haven for Dutch royalty. In gratitude, the Dutch royal family sent 100,000 tulip bulbs to Ottawa; a tradition which has continued to this day and is celebrated each spring with the International Tulip Festival.
